Lost Rewatch: Week 4

So I think the way we're doing this is working so far. What do you guys think? Should I be splitting them up differently? Would you rather one episode a night from Monday to Thursday? Or is two on Wed, two on Thurs working for you? In any case, here is this week's schedule!

Wednesday night at 8:
Hearts and Minds
Special

Thursday night at 8:
Homecoming
Outlaws

See you there!

I love it just the way it is. It's nice to look forward to Wednesday nights (aaah, just like the good old days...) and then Thursday nights, too.
This is going to be a good week!

By the way, it's still me. Just got tired of the water-fountain photo.

I remember you were concerned about the pacing of this rewatch some months back, Nikki, with four episodes a week - but I wanted to mention that I really enjoy the schedule you set up. It's not too quick and not too slow.

It's working fine for me too Nikki! I'm loving it! I must say though...I'm not too excited about watching Hearts and Minds this week...I was hoping never to have to watch the Booncest ever again. =P

I think it's great the way it is too. Looking forward to these episodes!

Lovin' every minute, Nik. Got waaayyy ahead of myself and just started Season 2. You'll never believe what's in The Hatch!

Ah, Katey - your avoidance of the Boone/Shannon hook-up would deprive you of some startlingly fresh insight on Locke-titude. The schedule works just fine, Nik - onward!

The Shout: Oh, you silly. I already KNOW what's in the hatch. It's a bunch of polar bears sitting around a TV drinking Coca-Cola, isn't it?

I want one a night every night! It is such a long wait to go from Thursday to Wednesday! I think this way is great too, I am just greedy and impatient.

Wait...there's Coke on the island?

I think it's going great the way it is. I just finished reading the guide for Homecoming. See you back on here tomorrow night!

I think it's perfect. It's one disc a week and the people who can and want to watch more are able to. I can't believe we're on the second to last week of Season 1 already personally. It's flying by if you ask me. I think one of the reasons I'm thoroughly enjoying Season 1 especially is because...well, okay I have a confession to make. I did NOT watch LOST during the original airing of Season 1. I know I know!! I'm sorry! I thought a bunch of people on an island wasn't interesting. Then, that summer, they re-aired the entire season and I heard good reviews so I watched it them. And well, the rest is history! :) However they did skip a couple of episodes to make it fit in the summer so I was a little confused in Season 2 on some things. It was all fixed when I got the DVD's for Xmas. So for me, Season 1 is really important to re-watch.
BTW, LOVED the Comic Con stuff on the other blog!!

Oh--Jazzy! Has everyone here been watching since season one? I didn't know that was something worth confessing! I've only been watching Lost since February of this year! I wanted 98 episodes in 4 weeks DURING school (Junior year of High School as a matter of fact--probably not the best idea, but oh well, what's done is done =P) and have since rewatched nearly ever episode. This is my second rewatch now, although I missed a few episodes here and there on my first rewatch. So yeah--no worries, you're not alone. I always wanted to watch it, I just could never remember when it was on and somehow, five years slipped by...seeing every episode from season one to season five over the course of 4 weeks was a GREAT first-time experience though, it's so much easier to connect the dots when you've seen the last five episodes within the day! Heheh! I don't recommend it for students though...boy did my grades drop that last semester....

Kate said...

Weird...I said "I wanted 98 episodes"...um, that should be "I watched 98 episodes". Yeahhh, clearly I should have focused more on school this past year. =P Sorry about that!

Works for me! Keep on keeping on!

@ Jazzygirl - I didn't start watching Lost until half way through season 3! Now, I can't imagine what the hell was the matter with me. Sometimes, you just don't know what's good for ya.

I'm another who didn't start watching until earlier this year when they were showing reruns. My husband ran across it while channel-surfing; it was actually one of the episodes we're watching this week, with Michael's/Walt's flashback and the whole "stay away from my boy" stuff. Really sucked me in! I knew I had to see this show from the beginning, so I bought all the DVDs (one at a time on Ebay and Amazon) and had a marathon. Missed a lot of sleep that month.

Oh, and season 4 didn't arrive until nearly a week after I'd finished season 3. It was killing me! I'm totally embarrassed remembering this now, but when my mail carrier didn't bring season 4 the day I expected it to arrive, I actually went off on a kind of mini-rant in my driveway (where I had been anxiously awaiting her arrival). "What?! It's not here YET?! OMG, how long does media mail take, anyway? I ordered it nearly ten days ago! WTH?!" I was freaking out like a crackhead who's supply has dried up. Yikes. Fortunately we've had the same mail carrier for over 20 years, so her response was to just laugh and drive away. Quickly.

Anyway, I think the re-watch schedule is perfect; it fits in really well with my work schedule. And as J.W. said, it's not too quick and not too slow.

My husband started me on Lost during the beginning of the fourth season. I caught up with the DVDs and proceeded to catch up season 4 online. Soon our kids were watching it too. I've started members of my family on Lost just by having them watch the first part of the pilot -- when Jack comes out of the jungle to see the crash site. Now they're hooked just as much as we are.

I like the current schedule, but the other idea is OK too.

Nik: LOL! Funnily enough that's my prediction for the final scene of Season 6.

Lost didn't start in the UK till the first season had finished in the US. I watched about 20 minutes of the pilot and ordered the Region 1 boxset. Lucky for me I was able to zip through it just in time to go straight into Season 2 (thank you internet).

It was great fun at work because everyone else was about 15 episodes behind and saying things like 'I hope nothing happens to that Boone guy' and 'I wish they'd hurry up and open that damn hatch!'

Jazzygirl said...

Phew I feel better! LOL! This is like a Anonymous Group! LOL! I know what you mean studiorose about the mail not bringing you what you expect. I would have done the same thing.
Katey...okay you have me torn here...I AM a high school teacher you know!! Shame on you! But I DO understand so you're forgiven! ;-p

On a fun note...I played Keno today on the fly at lunch...if you don't know what it is...it's a simple lottery game where you pick #'s and every 4 minutes or so on a TV screen the numbers are chosen randomly sort of like roulette. It's a nation wide thing. You can bet as many #'s as you want depending on what you want to spend. I usually just play four numbers....4,8,23,42. It has a better pay out odds (too long to explain here, just trust me). Well, I played 5 games and made a few bucks on the first two and then wham! I won $100 because all four numbers came up!! Yee haw! Honestly, I have good luck with those numbers! LOL

My goodness, I feel like the only one who watched from the beginning! I was looking for something to fill my nights now that Joss Whedon was officially off the air (Buffy had ended in 2003, Angel was gone in 2004, and I entered fall 2004 very sad...) I was hooked from the start.

My only story of a funny miss was "Numbers." Back then (in the olden days) we had a VCR, and we recorded Numbers and my husband watched it. After, I was saying I needed to find time to watch it before continuing with the next ep and he said, "Nah... nothing important happens." And he meant it!! So I watched the rest of the season WITHOUT watching Numbers first... I caught it in the summer.

And then I beat him with a stick.

My nakme is Ali Bags, and I am a late Lost viewer too.

I didn't start watching until November last year - I remember the hype about the pilot in the UK but wasn't watching much tv at the time and have been pretty nomadic since so never got the opportunity. I basically worked through seasons 1 to 4 in one go - and believe me, was sorely tempted to call in sick a few times to watch Lost!

So Lost has almost ruined my life, but in a good way.

@Nikki - I'm enjoying the rewatch but suffering from premature senility and immediately forget everything the minute I've watched an episode. Gonna have to start making notes.

I am surprised too at how many late comers there are! I don't feel so bad! I was only 9 months behind! I was ready for Season 2 when it started!

@Nikki: I was like you, looking for a way to fill my tv schedule after Buffy & Angel (I feared nothing would hook me after the Joss lovefest!) Then I started watching Lost and feared it would be canceled because I really liked it and it was a fantasy show. But here it is, still going strong, and planning on going out with a bang! I sometimes find the rewatch schedule a bit upsetting because I can't wait to hear what you and everyone has to say about the episodes BUT I really like waiting until Wednesdays. This way, we are honoring Lost even though it's not one episode a week and we're not waiting MONTHS before we start a new season. And I just got the original Finding Lost in the mail today so now I can really follow along.

I was a latecomer as well, though I always wanted to watch it. I finally borrowed seasons 1 and 2 from a friend, then bought season 3 because I couldn't wait to get it from her, but by then it was already too late to start watching season 4 since I didn't have internet access to catch up on the missed eps. :( So I wasn't able to watch it in real time until season 5, and believe you me, it was a freakin' long time all the way through the airing of season 4 and then waiting for it to come out on DVD. It's no wonder my sister and I devoured it in about 3 days.

Okay, I'll admit it, I only watched LOST becasue Dominic was in it. As a long time LOTR fan, I was impressed with the movies and the actors. I am very picky about my "fantasy" and would not have continued watching if it had not been so great. Alas, all my close friends who watched gave up in season 3. Too bad they didn't stick around for season 4.

Totally obsessed,

We agree that the re-watch original schedule is great and we prefer it stays as is.

We didn’t join the series until the beginning of S3 but we were immediately hooked! But we didn’t really “get” LOST until we got “Finding LOST” and regularly began following this blog. We’ve been able to catch up by watching the SyFy re-runs broadcast in order over the past several months. (The S4 finale is currently airing.) Nikki’s books have been indispensable. We find that reading the chapter before viewing an episode helps us to concentrate on important points to understanding the plot- and time-lines. Now we don’t get quite as lost as when we first signed on, and can’t wait to finally getting LOST in S6. Also, Nikki’s “add-ons” of actor biographies and essays on historical figures and literary references in the series add immeasurably to appreciating – and not getting too hopelessly – Lost.

I was there from the beginning too, Nikki :)

Though, to be perfectly honest, back then, Smallville was a bigger priority for me, and since both shows aired at the same time, I usually watched Smallville and recorded Lost for later viewing.

As the season progressed, I got more and more enamored of Lost and more and more frustrated with Smallville, to the point where Lost became the primary show and Smallville the recorded backup (and it wasn't too long before I stopped watching that outright).

And Lost has been no holds barred destination TV ever since!
